On ranking alone this was a mismatch: the No. 6 and No. 7 in the world against a pair seeded 14 and 21. On court, González and Campagnolo never let it read that way. They took the opening set 6-4 and then held their nerve through a second-set tiebreak to close it out without dropping a set.
The margins were narrow — the second set went the distance, decided 7-6 in the breaker — but once Stupaczuk and Yanguas fell behind on the scoreboard they never found the surge to turn it. For a partnership still hunting for consistency, another early exit stings.
The result blows a hole in that half of the men's draw. Remove two seeds in a single match and the path to the semifinals opens up for whoever survives this section.

Home interest Giulia Dal Pozzo and Nuria Rodríguez rode one of the day's wildest swings. After taking the first set 6-4, they were handed a bagel in the second — a 6-0 whitewash from Carolina Orsi and Patricia Llaguno that threatened to end the run before it started.
They regrouped. The decider ran all the way to a tiebreak, and this time it was the home-backed pair who held firm, taking it 7-6 to reach the quarterfinals. A match of extremes, settled by the finest margin.

Then they did it again — and bigger. Hours after escaping the round of 16, Dal Pozzo (No. 50) and Rodríguez knocked out world No. 6 Claudia Fernández and No. 8 Sofía Araujo to reach the semifinals. On seeding, this pair had no business being on the same court as one of the draw's protected teams.
They lost the first set 3-6 and looked set for a tidy defeat. Instead they flipped it, levelling with a 6-3 second set and pulling clear 6-2 in the third as the seeds faded. It is comfortably the run of the tournament, and Dal Pozzo — carrying home hopes at a Major — is now one win from the final.

No such drama for the world No. 1s. Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia brushed aside David Gala and Enzo Jensen 6-1, 6-1, conceding just two games across the match. The top seeds move into the quarterfinals with form and legs intact.
Triay / Brea 6-1 6-1 Martínez Fortún / Escacena
The women's top seeds matched them stride for stride. Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea dropped only two games in dismissing Patricia Martínez Fortún and Claudia Escacena 6-1, 6-1, a statement of intent as the draw narrows.
With 32 matches completed, the seeds held firm at the summit — Coello/Tapia and Triay/Brea look imperious — but the bottom of both draws has cracked open. Tomorrow's story is already half-written: Dal Pozzo and Rodríguez, the home-crowd underdogs, chasing a final nobody predicted.
