If you’ve played padel for more than five minutes, you’ve probably heard the name Arturo Coello. Towering at 1.90m (6' 3"), the Spaniard is an absolute force on court — smashing like a heavyweight while moving gracefully at the net.
Born in Mojados in the province of Valladolid in Spain, Coello started playing padel young thanks to his father, who was an avid padel player.
Arturo Coello's hometown club, Polideportivo, was where he learned to craft his technique, in old-style padel courts with concrete walls.
By the age of 19, he was already rubbing shoulders with legends.
Since then, he’s dominated both WPT and Premier Padel circuits, combining raw power with calm precision. His partnership with Tapia? Arguably they're the best men's padel pairing in modern padel history.
In 2024, Arturo Coello made the bold decision to move away from Valladolid, Spain, and to base himself instead in Miami, USA.
Coello's decision to move to Miami was fuelled by his passion for helping the sport progress the United States – A move which many former padel players have questioned, due to the lack of other top pros and coaches to train with.
But Coello has stated himself that since moving to Miami, he's had a renewed focus on his padel. A refreshing change to his lifestyle, which could well take him to another level.
Coello lives in Miami with long-term girlfriend, Maica Cabeza.
Whilst Agustín Tapia lives between San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca in Argentina, and Barcelona, Catalonia, the pair are said to have regular opportunities to meet up in the padel off-season to train alongside their coaches, Gustavo Pratto and Martin Canali.

Arturo Coello: From Young Talent to Padel’s Youngest World Number One
At just 21 years old, Arturo Coello has cemented his place in padel history. With explosive power, tactical maturity beyond his years, and a fearless mentality on court, the Spanish left-hander has risen from a promising junior to the youngest player ever to top the World Padel Tour rankings.
But his journey to the top wasn’t an overnight success—it was built on grit, constant adaptation, and some career-defining partnerships.
The Early Years (2017-2019): From Rookie to Rising Star
Arturo Coello entered the World Padel Tour scene in 2017, teaming up with Alberto Rea. Though his name wasn’t yet on everyone’s lips, he was already showing flashes of the dominance to come.
By 2019, his growth accelerated as he partnered with various players including Pincho Fernández, Fran Ramírez Navas, and Guga Vázquez—all matches that helped him gather experience and court sense.
The Turning Point (2020–2021)
In 2020, Coello joined forces with Iván Ramírez del Campo, a duo that caught attention thanks to their youthful energy. But it was his 2021 season that truly turned heads.
Starting the year alongside padel legend Miguel Lamperti, Coello gained valuable experience playing with one of the sport’s greats. The partnership, however, ended mid-season, leading to a brief but impactful collaboration with Javi Ruiz.
That summer, the pair made waves by reaching the semi-finals of the Málaga Open, pulling off a major upset by defeating the then-world number ones, Juan Lebrón and Alejandro Galán.
Due to an injury to Ruiz, Coello temporarily played with Alejandro Arroyo—a move that once again paid off with a surprise semi-final run at the Lugo Open. Soon after, Coello confirmed a major shift in his career by teaming up with none other than Fernando Belasteguín, a living legend of the sport.
Coello Becomes World Champion with Spain
Coello’s breakout year was capped off by a national call-up. In November 2021, he represented Spain in the Padel World Championship—and didn’t just participate. He played a key match in the final alongside Alejandro Galán, helping Spain clinch the title.
For a 19-year-old, it was a monumental achievement, and further proof that he was ready for the big leagues.
Titles with Belasteguín and Building Momentum (2022)
The 2022 season saw Coello and Belasteguín form one of the most entertaining pairs on tour. Mixing youthful firepower with Bela’s legendary control and wisdom, they collected four WPT titles and consistently battled at the top of the rankings.
More importantly, Coello was learning to handle pressure, perform on big stages, and refine his tactical game—all of which would set the stage for what came next.
Dominance with Agustín Tapia and World Number One (2023-Present)
In 2023, Coello teamed up with Agustín Tapia, and the results were immediate and historic. They started the year with sheer dominance, winning titles and steamrolling the competition.
After their emphatic win at the Vigo Open, where they again defeated Lebrón and Galán, Coello and Tapia became the new World Number One pair. Just a couple of tournaments later, with another title at the Vienna Open, Arturo Coello climbed to the top of the individual WPT rankings—alone.
At just 21 years, 2 months, and 21 days old, Coello became the youngest player ever to achieve the number one spot on the World Padel Tour. A truly historic moment.
