Exclusive: Premier Padel Qatar Major 'in doubt' due to Iran-US conflict
Sources have told Padelvoz.com that the Premier Padel Tour's first major of the year, the Qatar Major, is "highly likely" to be postponed or moved due to ongoing situation in the Middle East region.
Update (March 9, 2026): Premier Padel organisers to make a final decision imminently after consultation with QSI and Qatari security officials.
The opening major of the 2026 Premier Padel Tour season is facing mounting uncertainty amid escalating conflict in the Middle East, with April’s Qatar Major now in serious doubt.
Multiple Iranian missile strikes have hit targets in Dubai, Bahrain and across Qatar and the wider UAE in recent days, part of Tehran’s response to a military offensive by the United States and Israel.
The rapidly deteriorating security situation has triggered airspace closures, widespread flight cancellations and heightened regional alerts — developments that are already having a direct impact on international sport.
Official sources have told Padelvoz.com that tournament organisers are in “constant contact” with local security authorities in Doha. While no formal decision has yet been announced, there is an increasing sense behind the scenes that the Qatar Major — scheduled for April 2–8 — is likely to be postponed or relocated.
Why is the Qatar Major in doubt?
Logistics alone present a formidable challenge. With commercial air traffic disrupted across parts of the Gulf and uncertainty surrounding further airspace restrictions, transporting players, staff, broadcast crews and equipment into the region is becoming increasingly complex.
Premier Padel’s global calendar leaves little room for manoeuvre, meaning any postponement would create knock-on effects across the early-season swing.
Several players and their representatives are understood to have sought clarification from organisers regarding contingency plans. While no athlete has publicly withdrawn at this stage, there is growing unease within the tour's locker room about competing in a region experiencing active military escalation.
The Qatar Major is one of four flagship events on the Premier Padel calendar, traditionally drawing the sport’s biggest names and offering critical ranking points early in the campaign. Its status as the first major of the year adds further weight to the decision facing organisers.
Could the Qatar Major be moved to a new host city?
Moving the event to an alternative host city would present its own complications. Venue availability, broadcast infrastructure and sponsor commitments are locked in months in advance. Relocating a tournament of this scale at short notice would require swift coordination between the tour, local federations and commercial partners.
Premier Padel has not yet issued a public statement on potential changes, but discussions are ongoing. Sources indicate that contingency scenarios — including postponement to a later window in the season — are under active review.
Will the Qatar Major be cancelled?
Premier Padel is backed by Qatari capital through Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), making the Doha event a pivotal date for the project’s global ambitions.

The Qatar Major is a flagship showcase of Qatar’s role in padel’s professionalisation, commercial growth and international expansion.
Any disruption would therefore carry potential reputational damage to the wider image of Qatar.
It is understood that QSI have communicated an intention to keep the tournament in Qatar, perhaps at a later date. But obvious logistical challenges present themselves regarding finding an alternative host city at short notice, and subsequently finding apt space in the Premier Padel Tour's carefully planned schedule so as to not cause major disruption to the players.
With tensions continuing to rise and no clear diplomatic breakthrough in sight, the viability of staging a global sporting event in the region remains under serious scrutiny. A final decision is expected in the coming days as organisers weigh competitive integrity against logistical feasibility and, above all, player safety.
